According to a report yesterday in the Korea Economic Daily, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 will have a facial recognition capability because of doubts about the speed and reliability of the Iris Scanning alone.
“Due to some limits of iris scanning such as speed and accuracy, we have decided to add facial recognition to the Galaxy S8,” a Samsung official was quoted as saying. “With a face scanner, it will take less than 0.01 seconds to unlock the phone.” By another Samsung Official, It has been also reported that the mobile business division has completed the Software side of the technology and currently is testing the Facial recognition in prototypes. The biggest rival to the upcoming OLED iPhone, will launch on 29th of March.
Some UK retail sites like MobileFun has already started taking pre-orders for the flagship even before the launch. Pre-orders for as high as EUR 799, which comes with a 5.8 inch display and 64 GB Storage. There’s a significant rise in price as compared to the last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7 which was priced at EUR 549. Even the Galaxy S7 Edge was priced at a low of EUR 639 on launch. Of Course the Samsung S8+ will be even more expensive than the Galaxy S8 as it offers a larger display and a larger battery
Roland Quandt, claims that the Brand new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be priced at EUR 799 and EUR 899 respectively. He has also tweeted that the smartphones would be made available in Black, Silver and a new Violent variant.
Expected to sport Dual-edge Curved displays, Dual Camera Setup, a technology similar to iPhone’s 3D touch and a dedicated button for New AI assistant Bixby. This assistant is expected to be the game changer, will be a lot smarter and will be capable of working with native applications.
Samsung’s both flagships have nearly identical specifications except the display size. Galaxy S8 is said to come with 5.8 inch Quad HD + Super Amoled display whereas Galaxy S8+ will have 6.2 inch Quad HD + Super Amoled Display.
Common Specifications are as follows, both the flagships are going to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Variants in some region are said to be powered by the in-house Exynos 8895 SoC. Including the storage options,64GB of inbuilt storage and expandable upto via MicroSD card upto 128 GB [ 4 GB or 6 GB Ram]. Smartphones are going to have the same setup for the camera, 12 Megapixel dual rear camera and an 8 Megapixel front facing camera.
