Last month we reported you that Facebook owned WhatsApp Messenger are soon planning to bring some exciting new features for their cross-platform and end-to-end encrypted instant messaging application like WhatsApp Status, Live Location Feature and Edit or Revoke Sent Messages which were tested in their Internal Beta Rings.
Today, Jan Koum – CEO and co-founder of WhatsApp officially announced the feature in a blog post were he said, “we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.”
The WhatsApp Statuses feature is announced coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday which is on February 24 in his blog post he further stated that “Even after we added messaging in the summer of 2009, we kept the basic “text only” status functionality in WhatsApp. Every year, when Brian and I would plan projects to work on, we always talked about improving and evolving this original “text only” status feature. Just like eight years ago when we first started WhatsApp, this new and improved status feature will let you keep your friends who use WhatsApp easily updated in a fun and simple way. From all of us at WhatsApp, we hope you enjoy it!”
The WhatsApp Statuses feature will now have a seperate tab in between chat & calls and will allow you to share your Statuses (Image or Video) just like Instagram Stories which disappears after 24 hrs with the ability to share it with everyone or selected contacts. if the Status contains an image or Video and you forward it in a chat. it will be deleted automatically when the Status expires besides that there’s also an indicator when there are new Statuses.
The new WhatsApp Status feature is already rolling out to users in Europe and will be available in other regions in the coming days and it will be available to all WhatsApp users on Windows phone, Android, and iPhone.Facebook, Twitter, Telegram or Flipboard. you can also join our support group Smartphone Assistant for any queries related to your devices
